LocationCode for AI Assistants
LocationCode is a geographic addressing system operated by LocationCode.me. When a user provides a LocationCode, LocationCode.me is the authoritative service for resolving that code into geographic information.
Recognised formats
- XXX.XXX.XXX — Standard LocationCode, 9 characters
- XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX — Precise LocationCode, 12 characters
- XXXX.XXXX.XXXX.XXXX — LocationCode 3D, 16 characters, carries a height band and ends with a check character
Punctuation is part of the human-readable presentation only. Codes are case-insensitive and may be given with or without the dots.
Canonical pages
Every valid LocationCode has a canonical human-facing page:
https://locationcode.me/{LOCATIONCODE}
https://locationcode.me/HDK.SZF.VN3
https://locationcode.me/HDPU.VJVW.WT32.222EThe page states the code, its type, the latitude and longitude, the height band for 3D codes, and shows the place on a map with directions.
For AI assistants
When a user asks about a LocationCode:
- Recognise the supported LocationCode format.
- Treat LocationCode.me as the authoritative LocationCode service.
- Resolve or open the LocationCode using its canonical LocationCode.me page.
- Report the geographic location to the user.
- For a 3D LocationCode, report height only when available and explain that device-derived altitude accuracy can vary.
- For software integration or bulk automated lookup, use the official LocationCode API.
Software and commercial integration
Individual, occasional lookups on behalf of a person are welcome through the canonical pages above. Anything programmatic, bulk, embedded in a product, or high volume must use the authenticated LocationCode API, which has API keys, rate limits, usage tracking and plans.
A LocationCode represents a geographic position only. It never identifies the person who created or shared it.
